Azov is a well-known name. It is a southern port, Peter`s I fortress, city of Russian military glory. Its rough dramatic history is connected with an epoch of Golden Horde and Ottoman Empire. There was the Great silk way from China to Europe. Since 1067 the city keeps its chronology. Ramparts, the Alekseevskie gates, the Powder cellar are kept in "the city-warrior" as witnesses of siege sitting of Cossacks (XVII century).

Ramparts with Alekseevskie gates are interesting monuments of military - engineering art, witnesses of siege sitting of the Don Cossacks (17 century) and Azov campaigns of Peter the Great. Memorial boards and monuments are the original historical reserve proving an indissoluble connection of epochs. Under vaults of the Alekseevskie gates you will feel a breath of history: a booming echo of your steps as if repeats a rumble of furious battles once happened here. Powder cellar The regional museum is the keeper of the richest history of the city. It is the museum complex located in a fine building of former city uprava and three new buildings.
