Opened in 1993, Matisov Domik Hotel became one of the first privately-owned hotels in post-communist St. Petersburg offering a chance to stay in home-like interiors of a small inn on the Priazhka River embankment.
The demand for the hotel and its reputation among Russia's artistic celebrities turned Matisov Domik into a St. Petersburg institution of the 1990s. Lia Akhedzhakova, Valery Gergiev, Mikhail Shemiakin, Tatiana Tarasova, Valentin Gaft, Inna Churikova, Oleg Tabakov, Maya Plisetskaya and many other Russian prominent performers patronised the hotel.
Matisov Domik is located in Kolomna District in the historical centre of St. Petersburg. World-renowned Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theatre, St. Petersburg Conservatory, Grand Choral Synagogue, Yusupov Palace, and the New Holland Island are all a short walk away.
